M. Jamil Akhtar, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Akhtar is a distinguished cardiologist, a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He has practiced in the East Valley for nearly thirty years. Dr. Akhtar developed, constructed, owned and operated the cath labs at both Desert Samaritan and Mesa Lutheran hospitals for over two decades. Since January of 2003, Dr. Akhtar started expanding Cardiovascular Institute of Arizona and its services which, among other activities, is pioneering the development of cardiac imaging through multi-detector computer tomography (MDCT).






Umaima Fatima, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Fatima is one of the East Valley's premier female cardiologists, a member of the American College of Cardiology who is board certified in cardiovascular diseases, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. She has recently completed training at Harvard Medical School (in cooperation with Massachusetts General Hospital) under a National Institute of Health fellowship specializing in interpretation of MRI and MDCT cardiovascular imaging. Through her training and experience, Dr. Fatima has also achieved a special expertise managing women's cardiovascular health issues and adult congenital heart disease. Dr. Fatima specializes in complete cardiovascular risk assessment and cardiovascular diagnostics utilizing the most state-of-the-art innovative imaging techniques.







Stuart Lipskind, M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Lipskind joined the physicians of Cardiovascular Institute in 2006. He has over twenty years of experience as a practicing cardiologist. After completing his MD degree at Howard University in Washington, D.C. he then concluded his cardiology fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, NY. He is a member of AOA Medical School Honor Society and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Lipskind's interests include: clinical, non-invasive, and interventional cardiology including pacemaker implantation and management.
